Around Riksgränsen - Video

So here are some of the shots that we filmed on our way from Kiruna to Narvik. I hope you enjoy it. And somebody please give me a better laptop, it´s ridiculously annoying to edit on an eight year old laptop :D

Back home

Being back home for some time now means that Lukas managed to put his hands on the photos. We thought it´s also the right time for a resumé on the trip. So we decided that each of us should give you some thoughts on the trip and pick his Top 5 photos. Here you go:

Max:

The trip of a lifetime! I have only had one day of real ski-touring in my life before we flew there and I really wasn´t sure what to expect. It turned out to be a great experience. Just a real adventure. Sleeping in cars and huts, meeting no other people for days, a stunning and wild nature, great skiing and great company ;) And one thing is clear for me: There was such much stuff that we weren´t able to ski due to a lack of time (haha, 20 days weren´t enough) that we have to get back there!

I had first planned on jumping the cliffs, but the snow turned out to be super unstable. So I just went for the open face. And Lukas got the perfect moment for the picture. It was the first day skiing of our trip, what a start!

Our second day. Boy was it deep...

Our first night at the sea. Something not to forget!

Harstad. I just love the contrast of the white snow and the deep blue sea in this picture.

The view from the top was just incredible. And so was the skiing. Steep and deep!

Lukas:

I have never been on skis so many times in such a short time interval surrounded by that kind of beautiful nature. It was awesome and unforgettable! Mountains, sea, sun, powder... what else do you pray for as a freeskier? :)

Just one of our dozen hikes to the top...

...and it was always worth goimg there!

We had some incredibly nice powder runs.

Skiing with such views...something you don´t find in the alps.

Day 16 - 19: Mellow days

Day 16: Hanging around in Narvik

Day 15 ended yet another time with a great party. So day 16 was a rest day. I have to say, when we first drove through Narvik we thought it´s a dead place. But sure it is fun once you find the right place! Anyways, the weather really sucked so we added another night in Narvik and didn´t really leave the bed apart for breakfast.

Day 17: Narvikfjellet

We woke up to beautiful sunshine so we decided to go up Narvikfjellet for another run. Unfortunately the upper lift wasn´t running when we arrived and we were to lazy to hike the extra bit. Instead we went in the park with our pow skis. Haha, that worked only so-so... In the afternoon we met some guys who had actually skinned up all the way and said it was absolutely not worth it due to ice, so we just stayed on the slopes.

Slush in the morning

Trying some new grabs in sexy ski-touring gear

At least a spectacular background :)

MJ is back

Day 18: Abisko

The weather wasn´t that great again, so we did only one run close to Abisko. It must have had rained really high up, so it felt more like surfing than skiing.

Day 19: Kiruna

Today we had to give the car back so we drove back to Kiruna and now we´re hanging around in a pretty sweet hostel and enjoy the sight of snow before we get back to springtime Germany.

"Beautiful" Kiruna

Some sightseeing to kill time

Day 1 & 2

Day 1 - Travelling

Travelling. A lot of travelling. We started at 4:30 when Alex drove us to the airport (thanks a lot again!). Flying to Stockholm from Zurich was pretty decent, but Stockholm to Kiruna was kind of Ryanair-style without food or beverages. Actually you got a cup of coffee or tea for free. Thank you so much!

Anyways, picked up the car after that and drove to the next supermarket to buy as much food as possible for the next weeks. I think we succeeded but I also think we won´t like pasta with bolognese that much anymore after this holiday. After that we headed to Abisko where we are staying at a hostel and enjoyed an early sleep.

Soon in Stockholm :)

The lady from the car rental said it wouldn´t fit. Challenge accepted!

Camping on the lake. Seems to be what people like here...

Day 2 - Abisko

What a great day! A ski area that we had to share with about 30 people (it was a crowded day the locals said) and great powder. It doesn´t really get any better. We´ll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Lappland powder

Basically brand new

First line

Airtime :)

A trick, never done before: the "poop"-style

Max had to try it as well!

Nuolja

Tomorrow we´re going on a ski-tour here in Sweden and then we´ll head over to the Lofoten. Don´t worry if you don´t hear from us for the next couple of days as we plan on staying in the car or cabins in the mountains ;)
